Ron Henderson, FASLA,
Ron Henderson, Landscape Architect and director of the Illinois Institute of Technology’s Landscape Architecture and Urbanism program, was selected as a Japan-US Friendship Commission Creative Artist Fellow for his project, “Routine Maintenance: Caring for Plants in Japan,” which studies the cultural and horticultural practices around the Japanese cherry tree and cherry blossoms. Ron has been involved with the National Arboretum since 2018, as both an artist and tree care expert. Ron will share the story of his current work with Japanese master gardener, Fujimoto Kurato, to detail indigenous Japanese techniques for maintaining cherry trees during the restoration process.
