About the Event

Frederick Law Olmsted contributed far more to greater Milwaukee than the design of three parks and a green boulevard linking two of them. In this slide lecture, Virginia Small will explore how the “Father of American Parks” provided foundational design principles, as well as ideas about urban connectivity and equal access, that remain apparent and relevant today.

Virginia Small, an award-winning journalist and former senior editor at Fine Gardening, frequently writes about landscapes and environmental issues.

This presentation supports the current exhibition, which celebrates the 200th anniversary of the birth of Frederick Law Olmsted, social reformer and founder of American Landscape Architecture.
